OWEGO — A cold-shooting third quarter proved too much for Owego to overcome in a 57-45 loss to Waverly here Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class A girls basketball playoffs.
Jenna McEvoy knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, while Marielle Searles scored four points, and Ashlyn Dalton added a 3-pointer as Owego led 13-12 after the opening stanza.
McEvoy scored five more points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter, and Jana Nikulich canned a 3-pointer and the River Hawks led 26-25 at the half.
The Wolverines used a 16-3 third-quarter blitz, with Owego's only points coming on a Dalton 3-pointer, to take a 41-28 lead into the final eight minutes.
Dalton pumped in nine points in the fourth quarter, and McEvoy knocked down another 3-pointer, but Waverly played Owego even, 16-16, in the final stanza.
Dalton led Owego with 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while McEvoy scored 14 points, Eva Crawford added five points, and Searles chipped in with four points.
Owego wraps up the season at 12-8.
