Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — SVEC senior Tayah Beach won her third Section IV title and joined the 100-win club, while Newark Valley 8th-grader Hadley Merrill won her first, and Owego 7th-grader Gavin Lovell earned a bronze medal and a trip to States. They are the Tioga County Sports Report / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Feb. 14.
SVEC'S BEACH, NEWARK VALLEY'S MERRILL NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION GIRLS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
Beach began her day with a 10-0 technical fall in 51 seconds over Newark Vallley’s Kailynn Harvey, then pinned Horseheads’ Alexis Miles in 41 seconds.
Beach trailed Groton's Remington 8-0 in the semifinals, but scored a fall at 2:04 to reach the finals, where she pinned Chenango Forks's Emily Phillips in 1:57 for the 120-pound title.
Merrill advanced to the finals via a 10-0 technical fall over Windsor’s Addie Deyo and a 13-2 technical fall against Elmira’s Alexis Collins.
Merrill trailed 8-1 in the finals, but pinned United's Madison Faber at 3:55 to earn the 94-pound title.

Lovell, the third seed, opened his day with a pin of teammate Cael Daly in 3:41 in the quarterfinals, then lost via third-period fall to second-seeded Sava Gonopolskiy of U-UV in the semifinals.
Lovell bounced back with a pin of Norwich's Koltuyn Collins in the consolation semifinals, then pinned Chenango Valley's Andrew Valls in 4:46 in the third-place match to punch his ticket to States.
