Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — The best wrestlers in Section IV gather at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena for the girls wrestling championships here Friday afternoon.
The champion in each weight class will earn a berth at the N.Y. State Championships with Section IV getting a second automatic qualifier at 100, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 165, and 185 pounds.
The following Newark Valley, Owego Free Academy, and SVEC wrestlers are seeded in the top eight in the listed weight class:
94 pounds: Newark Valley 8th-grader Hadley Merrill (18-8) is the second seed, and Newark Valley 8th-grader Tressa Middendorf (14-11) Is the fourth seed.
100 pounds: SVEC freshman Elizabeth Kunte (11-18) is the eighth seed.
107 pounds: Owego Free Academy senior Ashlee Crawford (22-11) is the fourth seed.
114 pounds: OFA freshman Michaela Daly (24-12) is the fourth seed, and SVEC sophomore Taylor Zufall (20-9) is the fifth seed.
120 pounds: SVEC senior Tayah Beach (27-3) is the top seed.
132 pounds: OFA senior Tatum Kowalski (14-8) is the sixth seed.
235 pounds: SVEC senior Katelynn VanEtten (16-13) is the eighth seed.
