Tioga County Sports ReportNEWFIELD — The Newfield boys basketball team erupted for 31 second-quarter points to pull away for an 83-36 IAC South Small School victory over Spencer-Van Etten here Tuesday.
Malcolm Jenkins scored 15 of his game-high 34 points in the period while LaMari Speers and Malachi Wright combined for another 14.
Luukas Carling scored all 11 of the Panthers’ points in the third quarter while the Trojans extended their margin to 77-29.
Wright contributed 17 points to the win and Spears added 16, including four 3-pointers.
Carling led S-VE with 18 points, including two 3-pointers. Keith Hills had seven points and Noah Ingram added five. Nevin Mack, Zane Showerman and William Thayer-Scholl tacked on two points apiece.
S-VE hosts Odessa-Montour on Thursday.
