Tioga County Sports Report
DELHI — High-scoring Delaware Academy, which averages 60-plus points per game, put on an impressive defensive display early en route to a 67-38 non-league victory over Owego here Saturday.

Delhi checked the River Hawks on four first-period points to take a 13-4 advantage into the second quarter.

“Delaware Academy was the second best team we played this year,” coach Chris Evans said. “They were quicker, better passers, and they shot the ball exceptionally well. I'm certain they'll make a deep run in Class C.

“As for Owego, we just didn't manage to get anything going. Our energy level was low,and it didn't help that a couple of our starters are nursing slight injuries.”

Owego would put up 15 in Q2, but the Bulldogs scored 18 to extend their lead to 31-19 at halftime. Lucas Nealis accounted for 10 Delhi points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Delhi’s Ben Schnabel, John Wilson and Teddy Kelsh hit for seven, six and five points, respectively, in the third period to offset five from Owego’s Kingston Brainard and the Bulldogs’ 21-10 surge made it 52-29 heading into the final frame.

Delhi (11-3) knocked down seven treys on the day, including two apiece from Schnabel and Nealis, while Owego made just three.

Schnabel led all scorers with 17 points and Nealis added 13.

Brainard led Owego with 11 points, including two treys. Carter Rieg added seven points, Duke Snyder and Nolan Card had six apiece, Calvin Smith tacked on a 3-pointer, Noah Christ and Shae Pidcoe had two points each, and Theron Robinson added a free throw.
