SECTION IV INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: OWEGO’S HEATH SETS SCHOOL RECORD AT CLASS SECTIONALS (2026-02-09)

ITHACA — Owego senior Gavin Heath established a second school record in a week at the Section IV Class A/B Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Cornell University’s Barton Hall Saturday.

Heath won the 300-meter dash with a time of 35.99 seconds. That mark broke the previous record set by Christian Steidle in 2014. He topped 18 other Class A/B competitors as well as 30 Class C/D entrants.

On Feb. 1, on this same track, Heath set a new record in winning the 600 during the Finger Lakes Invitational. His time of 1:24.52 broke the mark set by Joe McDonald in 2015.

BOYS
Ryker Chrysler placed 13th in the 600 in 1:33.63 and Lukas Walp was 15th with a time of 1:39.98.

Maxwell Thompson finished 15th in the 55 hurdles, clocking 7.28 seconds.

The 4x200 relay of Thompson, Heath, Chrysler and Walp placed eighth with a time of 1:44.69. The quartet's time was well off its best effort due to baton exchange issue.

GIRLS
Jaelyn Chrysler led the River Hawks’ effort with fourth-place showing in the 1,000, posting a time of 3:18.85.

Abigail McHugh was fifth in the 1500 with a time of 5:10.86.

Sarah Heath crossed the finish line seventh in the A/B 600, clocking 1:51.09.

Paige DeProspero was 15th in the 1,000 in 4:02.5.

Avaleigh Tinsley took 20th in the 300 with a time of 57.3 seconds.

The 4x800 relay of Chrysler, McHugh and Heath were joined by DeProspero to place seventh in 11:15.33. DeProspero was filling in for Stella Palladino, who is nursing an injury.
