SECTION IV WRESTLING: OWEGO’S LOVELL, SIROTKIN SECOND AT QUALIFIER B (2026-02-07)

WAVERLY — Owego’s lower weight duo of Gavin Lovell and Vitaly Sirotkin garnered runner-up honors at the Section IV Division II Qualifier A wrestling tournament here Saturday.

Lovell, a 7th-grader dropped a 7-6 heartbreaker to Sava Gonopolskiy in the 103-pound finals as the Unatego/Unadilla Valley/Franklin standout scored a reversal with four seconds remaining.

Sirotkin fell by pin in 1:22 to Edison’s Mason Vanderhoff at 110. Vanderhoff was a Division I state qualifier at Horseheads last season.

Lovell started his day with a fall over BGAH’s Colton Hall in 1:36. In the semifinals, he scored an 18-1 tech. fall in 3:31 against Koltun Collins of Norwich.

Sirotkin had a bye into the semis where he recorded a 15-0 tech. fall in 3:28 against Jaxson Polhamus from Susquehanna Valley.

Trevor Monell placed third at 215. He nipped Deposit/Hancock’s Patrick Esolen, 9-8, in his opener, then lost by fall to UVUF’s Nathan Boyles in 2:14. In the third-place match, Monell received a medical forfeit win from Schuyler’s Patrick Croft.

John Cornwell was fourth at 138. He pinned T-burg’s Harvey King in 1:32 and lost by fall to Waverly’s Daltton Davis in three minutes and Windsor’s Cassius Hudson in 1:14.

Jaydin Brainard had a big day with his fifth-place showing at 175. Seeded seventh, he decked Trumansburg’s Leonidis Jennings in 49 seconds, but lost by an 18-2 tech. fall in 2:32 to Sus Valley’s Zach LaMantia. He came back to pin Brad Bolster of BGAH in 2:03 and Schuyler’s Emmitt Presutti in 2:58. Brainard picked up fifth place with a no contest win over Norwich’s Matthew Allen.

Cael Daly placed sixth at 103. He lost to Collins, 11-7, then bestedHall with a 12-2 major decision. He gave up fifth place to Deposit/Hancock’s AJ Zimer via no contest.

Anthony Neumuth (285) was 1-2 with a fall over Dryden’s Hauke Gelder in 4:31.

Carson Desmond (126), Sullivan Morgan (132), Jayce Saulsbury (150) and Omari Washington (157) all went 0-2.

Robbie Curley, the fourth seed at 118, and Mamas Gehring, the eighth seed at 132, did not compete.
