Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — The Spencer-Van Etten / Candor girls wrestling team tied Tioga, but fell to Groton and Newark Valley in a quadrangular girls wrestling meet held here Wednesday.
The Eagles and Tigers tied, 15-15, in a match in which only the contested matches counted toward team scoring. SVEC lost to Groton, 18-6, while NV prevailed over the Eagles, 35-15.
SVEC 15, TIOGA 15
Elizabeth Kunte (107 pounds) and Tayah Beach (120) received forfeits for the Eagles while Katelynn VanEtten (235) pinned Emily Moniz in 58 seconds.
For Tioga, Cora Szymanski (138) pinned Abigail Russell in 1:10, and Marci Moniz (152) and Kyah Nelson (185) accepted forfeits.
GROTON 13, SVEC 6
Beach was the lone winner for SVEC, receiving a forfeit.
VanEtten (235) dropped a 5-3 heartbreaker to Lacy Batzer. VanEtten scored a point on a push-out, then added a takedown for a 3-0 lead. Batzer rallied back with a push-out and takedown to tie the score, then added two more push-outs late in the bout.
NV 35, SVEC 14
Kunte pinned Nora McCann in 1:13, Beach posted a 12-0 tech. fall over Kailyn Harvey in 1:09 and VanEtten received a forfeit.
NV’s Billeigh Dawson (138) pinned Abigail Russell in 38 seconds.
The Cardinals’ other victories were forfeits to Tressa Middendorf (94), Hadley Merrill (100), Madilynn Davis (126), Emily Laporte (138), Malerie Gregrow (145) and Isabella King (152).
SVEC will compete in the Corning Round Robin Tournament on Saturday.
