TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: SVEC'S BEACH, CANDOR'S MAKIE NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2026-01-27)

TIOGA COUNTY — SVEC senior Tayah Beach turned in a pair of strong performances, and Candor junior Donald Makie played a big part on the Coyotes' 3-0 week. They are the TCSR / Guthrie Community Credit Union "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Jan. 24.

SVEC'S BEACH MAIKE NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Beach was 6-1 on the week to pick up a third-place finish at the rugged Windsor Tournament, and her third IAC Championship.

Beach was 3-0 to win the 120-pound pool at the IAC Championships Saturday.

Beach scored two 10-0 technical fall wins, and received a forfeit on the way to her IAC title.

On Monday, Beach was 3-1 with three pins to place third at Windsor. Her lone loss was to state-ranked Payten Tuttle of Lowville.

CANDOR'S MAKIE NAMED GUTHRIE COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Junio Donald Makie averaged 24.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2 steals per game in a trio of wins. He also knocked down 10 3-pointers.

On Monday, Makie led Candor with 28 points, including five 3-pointers, three rebounds, one assist and one steal in a 67-60 win over Windsor.

Makie contributed 23 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and a 5-for-6 effort at the free-throw line, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 102-54 win over S-VE on Wednesday.

On Friday, Makie led all scorers with 23 points, including two 3-pointers and a 3-for-3 showing at the free throw line, and tacked on one rebound and one steal.
