IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: KWIATKOWSKI'S CAREER NIGHT LEADS NEWARK VALLEY TO BIG WIN OVER EDISON (2026-01-23)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley's Aubrey Kwiatkowski had a first quarter for the ages here Friday night in the Cardinals' 87-14 rout of Thomas A. Edison in IAC girls basketball action.

Kwiatkowski poured in 21 points, including five 3-pointers, the first quarter to lead Newark Valley to a 28-2 lead after the first eight minutes.

"It was a great shooting night for Aubrey," said Newark Valley coach Greg Schweiger. "She got us off to a hot start — it was a career night.

"The girls played hard and did a nice job of sharing the ball," added Schweiger. "I’m pleased with their collective effort."

Kwiatkowski scored six more points — an old-fashion three-point play and another 3-pointer — in the second quarter, while Adrianna Rich added five points, including a 3-pointers, and Haven Aylesworth added four points in a 21-3 blitz that gave the Cardinals a 49-5 halftime lead.

Rich tossed in nine points in the third quarter in a 21-3 run that extended the lead to 70-8 entering the fourth quarter.

Kwiatkowski had a career-high 30 points, including seven 3-pointers, and seven steals to lead the Cardinals, and Aylesworth had 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals

Rich had 14 points and five steals in the win, while Gabi James had seven points, four rebounds, six assists, and four steals Elizabeth Phillips had seven points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, Malloy Chapman had five points, two assists and two steals, and Kam Short added four points, five rebounds, five assists, and one blocked shot.

Newark Valley returns to action Tuesday at Dryden.
