Tioga County Sports ReportCANDOR — Zach Szathcha scored half of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead Moravia to a 56-53 comeback win over Candor in an IAC Small School boys basketball game here Friday.
Szatcha drained three of his four 3-pointers in the period as the Blue Devils pumped out 25 points, rallying from a 35-31 deficit. Eli Landis added six points, including a trey, and Jairen Francis and Dillon Palmer, tacked on four points apiece during the comeback.
The Coyotes grabbed a 7-5 first-quarter edge as Donald Makie scored four points and Jakobe Foster added three more.
Both teams found the inside of the rim several more times in the second stanza as Moravia surged in front, 22-20, at the break.
Noah Corbett accounted for six points for the Devils and Teagan Kwiatkowski added five for Candor. He and Kyle Jantz knocked down one three-ball each, and Makie tacked on another four points.
The third quarter took a turn in the Coyotes’ favor as Makie pumped out another five points and Foster chipped in with four. Makie and Mat Smith sank one 3-pointer apiece.
Makie hit from beyond the arc twice in the final frame as he and Foster scored six points apiece, and Kwiatkowski added five, including one trey.
Makie led Candor with 19 points, including three threes and a 4-for-4 performance at the free throw line. Foster went 3-for- 3 at the stripe, finishing with 13 points, and Kwiatkowski had 10 points with two treys and was 2-for-2 at the foul line.
Candor shot 86 percent at the line, going 12-for-14.
Also contributing points for the Coyotes were Jantz and Smith with three apiece, and Ben Sheridan with one.
Landis, Palmer, Corbett and Francis added 10, nine, eight and seven points, respectively, for Moravia.
