ELMIRA HEIGHTS — SVEC won three of the five contested weight classed to pull out a forfeit-filled, 36-29, decision over Thomas A. Edison here Thursday night in IAC Large School Division wrestling action.
Both teams received three forfeits in the match.
Following SVEC forfeits at 118, 126 and 132 pounds (there were no matches at 103 and 110 pounds), senior Kamren Westbrook took a forfeit at 138 pounds to put the Eagles on the board.
SVEC sophomore Brennan Zimmer won the first bout to reach the mat, needing just 30 seconds to record a fall and pull the Eagles within six points, at 18-12.
Freshman Gabriel Benjamin pinned Edison's Daniel Cruz in 3:00 at 150 pounds to tie the match at 18-18, and sophomore Kollen Westbrook received a forfeit at 157 pounds to give the Eagles a 24-18 lead.
Pins by Aiden Quackenbush at 165 pounds and Greg Golden at 190 pounds rallied the Spartans into a 30-24 lead. (There was no match at 175 pounds.)
Junior Connor Breed won the final contested weight class of the night with a 35-second fall at 215 pounds to tie the match at 30-30.
Junior Jak Smith had his hand raised at 285 for a forfeit win to give the Eagles the win.
SVEC returns to action Wednesday in its final dual of the season at Dryden.
