STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO OFFENSE STRUGGLES IN LOSS TO CV (2026-01-14)

OWEGO — The Owego boys basketball struggled to put points on the scoreboard in a 50-40 STAC Central Division loss to Chenango Valley here Wednesday night.

The River Hawks managed just eight points in each of the third and fourth quarters as CV rallied from an early deficit.

“Still searching for some efficiency at the offensive end of the floor,” coach Chris Evans said. “We are unable to get the right guy the ball at the right time. We will continue to work on that.”

The Warriors trailed, 13-9, after one period and 24-23 at the half, but crept in front, 33-32, heading into the final frame.

Johnny Paske went 4-for-4 at the free throw line and Alikhan Murat was 2-for-2 down the stretch. Murat scored seven of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and Paske had six of his 11 in the same period.

Calvin Smith knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter, scoring 11 points to lead Owego to a 13-9 advantage. He finished the game with four treys and a team-high 19 points.

Nolan Card chipped in with 11 points, Carter Rieg contributed eight and Shay Pidcoe tacked on a basket.

The River Hawks were without point guard Duke Snyder.

Owego (3-7) heads to Chenango Forks (4-7) Saturday.
