Tioga County Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN — Watkins Glen created space during the second and third quarters, and went on to defeat Newark Valley, 61-48, in IAC South Large School boys basketball action here Tuesday.
With an 11-8 advantage after one period, the Lake Hawks stretched their lead to 28-18 at halftime behind eight points from Dominic Lewis.
Their lead continued to grow in the third quarter, to 52-29, as Christopher Simiele put up 10 points and Jude Santos added nine more.
Simiele led all scorers with 22 points while Lewis and Santos contributed 10 apiece.
Cooper Davis led the NV effort with 20 points, including three 3-pointers, and Tristan Veruto chipped in with another 16 points. Austin Green had five points with one trey, Josh Benjamin went 4-for-4 at the free throw line, and Tim Wojtysiak added three points.
