IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: THIRD-QUARTER OUTBURST CARRIES CANDOR TO 82-45 WIN OVER TIOGA (9 PHOTOS) (2026-01-13)

CANDOR — Candor built an nine-point cushion at the half, then blew the game wide-open in the third quarter on its way to an 82-45 win over Tioga here Tuesday night in IAC South Small School boys basketball action.

Jakobe Foster scored seven points in the first quarter, while Donald Makie added four points, and Matthew Smith canned a 3-pointer to help the Coyotes to an 18-13 lead after the opening eight minutes. 

Foster scored seven more points, including a 3-pointers, and Kellen Williamson buried a 3-pointers as Candor used a 14-8 advantage in the stanza to take a 32-23 lead at the halftime intermission.

In the third quarter, Makie pumped in 12 points, including a 3-pointer and an old-fashioned three-point play, while Ryan Juicing scored eighth points, Ben Sheridan had seven points, including a trey, Smith added five points, including his second 3-pointer of the contest and Foster chipped in with four points to fuel a 36-8 outburst that put Candor up 68-31 heading into the final eight minutes.

Smith, Williamson and James Pritchard each canned 3-pointers for the Coyotes in the fourth quarter as the two teams played even in the final stanza.

Foster had 18 points, five rebounds, 11 assists, and four steals, and Makie had 18 points and five steals to lead Candor, while Smith had 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and Kyle Jantz hauled down 17 rebounds and had four assists.

Huizinga had eight points, 10 rebounds, and one blocked shot in the win, while Williamson scored eight points, Sheridan added seven points, seven boards, and two blocked shots, Teagan Kwiatkowski grabbed six rebounds, and Kyron Odell chipped in with three boards and one blocked shot.

Gavin Kithcart led Tioga with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Carter Stoughton had a career-high 12 points, including three 3-pointers, and Jackson Bombard added eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

Candor, now 7-2, returns to action Friday when it hosts Moravia.
