Tioga County Sports ReportELMIRA — Spencer-Van Etten / Candor standout Tayah Beach claimed a spot on the podium at the Southern Tier Memorial held at the LECOM Events Center here Saturday.
The SVEC boys team had some solid efforts as well, but the Eagles came up short in their bid to put someone on the podium.
GIRLS
Beach had a shot at revenge when she faced Gionna Allen of Fulton in the 120-pound semifinals. She would build a 10-2 advantage, but Allen, who won their previous meeting two weeks ago, was able to pick up a fall with 15 seconds remaining in the Match.
Beach rebounded with a fall over Tioga's RaeAnne Feeko in 2:02 in the consolation semis.
In the third-place bout, Beach decisioned Corning's Lauren Mahon, 4-2. Mahon has won three previous tournament this season.
BOYS
Rodney Vaow, the Eagles’ best bet for a podium finish, was unable to compete on day two and gave up a medical forfeit at 132 pounds. He finished the tournament at 2-1.
Kaden Jameson (144), Gabe Benjamin (150) and Jak Smith (285) each lost by fall in their first bouts on day two and were eliminated from contention. The trio went 3-2 on the weekend.
Kameron Westbrook (138) lost his first match Saturday by major decision and finished the tournament at 2-2.
