Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR — Candor jumped out to an early lead and made it last in a physical, 56-35, win over Marathon here Friday night in IAC Small School Division girls basketball action.

“They were much taller than us inside and that gave us problems in the paint and with rebounding on both ends," said Candor coach Carl Kanoff. "We had strong outside shooting again and were able to beat them down the court though.

"Megan (Williamson) led some nice breaks to keep us going strong," he added. "She’s really coming into her own."

Emmi Makie pumped in 13 first-quarter points on two field goals and a trio of 3-pointers to fuel a game-opening 18-9 run for the Coyotes.

Candor added to it lead with a 15-9 advantage in the second quarter. Williamson scored six points, and Makie added four to provide the scoring punch.

Williamson would pour in 11 second-half points to seal the victory, while Makie chipped in with eight.

Makie led all scorers with 25 points, recording her eighth consecutive double-double by hauling in 10 rebounds, to go along with four steals.

Williamson stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals, while Malley Heidl had five points and five rebounds, and Conklin pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked five shots.

Hazel Ray had four rebounds and three steals for the Coyotes, and Vorhis contributed three rebounds.

Candor, now 5-3, returns to action Tuesday at Tioga for their first divisional match up. The teams have met twice previously in tournaments with Candor winning both contests.
