SPENCER — Spencer-VanEtten struggled to score against Union Springs' rugged defense here Friday night in a 62-23 loss in the IAC girls basketball action.
The Wolves limited the Panthers to just three field goals in the first half, leading 19-4 at the end of the first quarter, and 34-7 at the half.
Trinity Dashler scored four points and Kaidince Root knocked down a 3-pointer in the third quarter, but S-VE couldn't cut into the lead and trailed 45-18 heading into the final eight minutes.
Union Springs closed out the game with a 17-5 run in the fourth quarter.
Kendall Gentile led S-V with seven points, four assists, and three steals, while Dashler had four points and three boards, Kaylee Kastenhuber had four points, four rebounds and two assist, and Lauren Gillette grabbed three boards.
Jennifer Daum led Union Springs with 17 points and Allie Parker added 13.
S-VE returns to action Tuesday when it hosts O-M.
