OSWEGO — A trio of seniors — Titus Callahan, Cadin Creeley, and Logan Woodlin — placed second in their weight classes to lead Newark Valley to a seventh-place finish in the 26-team field at the Ken Haines Memorial Tournament here Monday at SUNY Oswego.

Seniors Logan Rhodes, Elijah Williams and Marcos Escalante also reached the podium for the Cardinals.

Cicero-North Syracuse won the team title with 171.5 points, while west Genesee was second with 168, Mexico was third with 165.5, Fulton was fourth with 164.5, and Webster-Thomas was fifth with 160.5. Newark Valley tallied 127 points.

Callahan scored a dominating 16-1 technical fall over South Lewis' Carter Bourgeois in the semifinals, but lost via first-period fall to Holland Patent's Trent True in the 190-pound title bout.

Creeley scored a pin of Fulton's Collen Austin in 5:27 in the semifinals, but dropped a hard-fought, 3-1, decision to Watertown's Paul Ortega in the 165-pound finale.

Woodlin decked Mexico's Mason Wilcox in 39 seconds in the semifinals, then lost via fall to West Genesee's Logan Willis at 5:23 in the 150-pound title bout.

Williams was 2-1 Monday to finish fifth in the 175-pound bracket.

Williams scored a pin of Cicero-North Syracuse's Bryce Watson in 3:00, then lost via third-period technical fall in the consolation semifinals.

Williams was awarded a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.

Escalante was 3-1 Monday to finish fifth in the 144-pound bracket.

Escalante decked West Genesee's Nathan Mittler-Romano in 1:26 in his first wrestleback match Saturday, then pinned Chittenango's Daniel Mahle in 4:50.

In the consolation semifinals, Escalante lost via third-period fall to Webster-Thomas' Luciano Paone, but bounced back with a 9-1 major decision of Chittenango's Miles Wilson in the fifth-place match.

Rhodes was 1-1 Saturday to finish seventh in the 138-pound bracket.

Rhodes dropped a wild 21-13 major decision to Waterloo's Jackson Worden in his first bout Saturday, but rebounded in the seventh-place match with a pin of Owego's John Cornwell in 3:44.

Newark Valley returns to action Saturday at the Stan Elisky Memorial Tournament at Deposit H.S.
