Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Tioga freshman Grace Howey was a scoring machine this season and her footwork makes her the 2025 Tioga County Sports Report Girls Soccer "Player of the Year."

Owego junior Ashlyn Dalton is the "Offensive Player of the Year," while Newark Valley senior Anika Smith is the "Defensive Player of the Year," Spencer-Van Etten/Candor 8th-grader Melanie Stevens is the ”Newcomer of the Year,” Waverly sophomore Lilly Boothby-Schoonover is the "Breakout Player of the Year," Waverly senior Claire Clonch is the "Keeper of the Year," and Tioga's Emily Potter is the "Coach of the Year."

Howey, the IAC South Small School Division MVP, led the county in points scored, racking up 16 goals and dishing out 12 assists.

Repeating as the top offensive player, Dalton matched last year’s 17-goal output, more than any other player in the county. She accounted for all but four of the River Hawks’ goals and also had two assists, and was a STAC Central/East All-Conference pick.

Smith plays the sweeper position as well as anyone, collecting loose balls, intercepting through-balls and covering gaps left by other defenders. The senior also contributed two goals and three assists to NV’s scoring totals, and was an IAC South Small School first team all-star.

Boothby-Schoonover, who saw minimal action as a freshman, used her speed and athletic in goals (six) and assists (three) for the Wolverines.

The top goalkeeper a season ago, Clonch holds that distinction again. The junior gave up 40 goals in 16 games, averaging 9.875 saves per contest. She recorded three shutouts and was also guarding the net in six one-goal games.

Potter guided the Tigers to an 8-8-1 record and an IAC South Small School championship. The team would fall to eventual state qualifier Groton in a 1-0 double overtime battle for the IAC Small School title.

Ashlyn Dalton, junior, Owego: See above.

Allie Lyon, sophomore, SVEC: One of the quickest and most accurate forwards in the area, she led the Eagles with 16 goals and 10 assists. Lyon was selected as an IAC South Large School first team all-star.

Sophia Haney, senior, Tioga: The Tigers other dominant midfielder, she scored 12 goals, tacked on five assists, and was named an IAC South Small School first team all-star.

Makenzie Olmsted, junior, Waverly: A STAC Central/East All-Conference selection, she posted five goals and one assist as a defender.

Meradyth Stouffer, junior, SVEC: Witn athletic and physical presence in the midfield, she scored eight goals and doled out 10 assists.

The Second Seven
Iris McCloskey, junior, Newark Valley:
A staple in the Cardinals’ lineup as their stopper, she chipped in with a pair of goals and was an IAC South Small School first team all-star.

Leah Clark, sophomore, Owego: A strong defender, her skills earned her a spot as a STAC Central/East All-Conference player.

Kait Sutton, senior, Waverly: The STAC Central/East All-Conference forward contributed six goals and three assists.

Marci Moniz, senior, Tioga: Keeping a watchful eye on the goal, she was key to the team’s IAC South Small School championship run, making 162 saves during an 8-8-1 campaign. She averaged 9.53 saves per game and pitched a pair of shutouts.

Emily Zwierlein, senior, Tioga:
A physically tough defender, she was chosen to the IAC South Small School first team.

Melanie Stevens, 8th grade, SVEC:
A nice compliment to Lyon and Stouffer, the young forward contributed six goals and four assists, and was chosen an IAC South Small School second team all-star.
