Tioga County Sports ReportCANDOR — Candor senior Nicola Soper and junior Emmi Makie were voted IAC South Small School Division co-Most Valuable Players, and were also named first-team Class D all-state, and four of their teammate — two first-team and two second-team — received all-star recognition recently in voting by the league's coaches.
Junior Malley Heidl and senior Jill Teribury were named second-team all-state and first-team divisional all-stars, and seniors Ava Fernando and Hazel Ray received second-team recognition.
Makie, a tremendous all-around athlete, led the Coyotes with 218 service points, 266 kills, and 100 digs. She also had 58 saves, three assists and seven blocks.
Soper, a powerful force at the net, registered 249 kills, 172 points, including a team-high 78 saves, 74 digs, eight blocks, and three assists.
FIRST TEAM
Malley Heidl, junior, Candor: A true floor general, Heidl dished out 510 setter assists, to go along with 189 points, including 48 aces, 177 kills, three blocks, and 55 digs.
Jill Teribury, senior, Candor: Teribury had 171 points, including 38 aces, 63 digs, 23 assists, and four kills.
SECOND TEAM
Ava Fernando, senior, Candor: Fernando registered 52 kills and a team-high 20 blocks, to go along with 13 points, including five aces,.
Hazel Ray, senior, Candor: Ray had 151 points, including 28 aces, 54 kills, six blocks, 11 assists, and 40 digs.
