IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE DROPS A PAIR AT WATKINS GLEN HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT (2025-12-21)

WATKINS GLEN — Spencer-VanEtten dropped a three-point decision to Marcus Whitman Saturday in the opening round of the Watkins Glen Holiday Tournament, then was steamrolled by South Seneca in the consolation game Sunday.

Watkins Glen beat Marcus Whitman, 62-38 in the championship game, after taking down South Seneca, 68-37, in the opening round.

Consolation Game
South Seneca 74, S-VE 33
South Seneca jumped out to an early 15-point lead, and cruised to a 74-33 win over S-VE Sunday afternoon in the consolation game.

South Seneca raced out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter, then extended its advantage to 34-15 at the half.

The Falcons ended any doubt in the outcome with a 16-4 third-quarter blitz to carry a 50-19 lead in the fourth quarter.

Luukas Carling led S-VE with 13 points, while Noah Ingram added six, and Zane Showerman and Cameron Sundquist chipped in with five points apiece.

Opening Round
Marcus Whitman 44, S-VE 41
The Panthers trailed by nine after three quarters, then saw their fourth-quarter comeback fall shy in a 44-41 loss to Marcus Whitman Saturday afternoon in the opening round.

Marcus Whitman led 13-11 after the first quarter, despite S-VE getting eight points from Luukas Carling, including a pair of 3-pointers, and a trey from Nick Oakes.

Oakes drained two more 3-pointers in the second quarter, but Marcus Whitman extended its lead at the half to 28-19 with a 15-8 run.

After a cold-shooting third quarter that saw both teams score just four points each, Marcus Whitman led 32-23 heading into the final eight minutes.

Carling scored seven points, including his third 3-pointer of the game, while Keith Hills, Noah Ingram, and Oakes added 3-pointers in an 18-12 spurt that cut the deficit to four.

Carling led S-VE with 19 points, while Oakes added 12 points on four 3-pointers, and Nevin Mack chipped in with four points.

S-VE returns to action Jan. 6 when it hosts Newfield.
