FOSTER JOINS CANDOR'S 1,000-POINT CLUB

CANDOR — In an early candidate for "Game of the Year," Candor needed three overtimes to pull out a 96-91 win over Union Springs here Friday night in IAC boys basketball crossover action.
In the third quarter, senior Jakobe Foster, who pumped in 39 points, became the ninth player in program history to score 1,000 career points.
Donald Makie knocked down a trio of 3-pointers and pumped in 16 points in the first quarter to help the Coyotes to a 27-22 lead after the first eight minutes.
Jakobe Foster scored nine points in the second quarter, but Union Springs used a 19-11 advantage to take a 41-38 lead into the halftime intermission.
Foster scored 11 more points in the third quarter as Candor sliced the lead to one point, at 56-55 entering the fourth quarter.
In the final eight minutes, Foster scored six points while Makie, Teagan Kwiatkowski, and Matthew Smith each drained 3-pointers, and regulation eded with the game tied at 73-73.
Kwiatkowski scored 10 points in the overtime sessions, including seven in the third extra period, and Foster added nine.
Foster led Candor with 39 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Makie had 24 points, six rebounds, and four steals, and Kwiatkowski had 15 points and six rebounds.
Ryan Huizinga had six points and nine rebounds in the win, while Smith and Ben Sheridan added five points apiece, and Kyle Jantz and Kellen Williamson grabbed four rebounds apiece.
Rocco Testa led Union Springs with 30 points, while Cooper Dechick scored 23 and Andrew Case added 17 points.
Candor, now 2-1, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Newfield.
