HARPURSVILLE — S-VE had a poor shooting second quarter, and it proved costly in a 50-36 loss to Harpursville here Monday night in non-league girls basketball action.
Kaylee Kastenhuber scored six points in the first quarter, and Lauren Gillette add four points, but the Hornets still managed a 14-13 lead after the opening eight minutes.
The Panthers made just one field goal in the second quarter, and Harpursville used a 10-2 run to take a 24-15 lead into the third quarter.
Gillette scored six points in the third quarter, and Trinity Dashler added a 3-pointer, but the Hornets outscored the Panthers, 14-12, to take a 38-27 lead into the final eight minutes.
The Panthers also struggled at the free-throw line, converting just 5 of 18 attempts in the game.
Kastenhuber led S-V with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Gillette had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, Dashler added five points, three boards and two steals, Kaidence Root chipped in with four points and two steals, and Kendall Gentile dished out three assists.
S-VE, now 0-2, hosts Tioga Thursday at 6 p.m.
