OXFORD — Senior Kamren Westbrook and junior Cooper Zufall each won a pair of matches to pace SVEC's efforts here over the weekend at the Clyde Cole Wrestling Invitational.
Westbrook was 2-2 in the 144-pound weight class. He scored a pin of Queensbury's Landan Drove in 75 seconds in the opening round, but was knocked into the consolation bracket by Shenendehowa's Greg Green.
In his first wrestleback match, Westbrook pinned his teammate Aaron Shoemaker Jr. in the first period, but was eliminated in the next round by Sidney's Anthony Botte with an 11-2 major decision.
Zufall was 2-2 in the 190-pound bracket. He opened with a pin of Queensbury's Elijah Pasco in 2:31 in the opening round, but lost via fall to Cobleskill-Richmondville's Dylan Gallagher.
In his first consolation bracket match, Zufall recorded a handful of takedowns in an 18-3 technical fall of Oxford-Greene's Tallan Davis.
He was eliminated in the third round of wrestlebacks by a first-period fall at the hands of Queensbury's Carter Guyette.
SVEC standout senior Rodney Vaow was 1-2 in the 138-pound bracket. In the opening round, Vaow scored a 17-1 technical win over Marathon's Gabriel Spizziri, then was injured during a 17-5 major decision loss to Shenendehowa's Ryan Ivy, and issued a medical forfeit in his next match.
Sophomore Dante Davis was also 1-2 in the 138-pound bracket, with his only win being the forfeit from Vaow.
Aaron Shoemaker Jr. was 1-2 in the 144-pound weight class. His lone win was an 11-4 decision over Carthage's Brady Peguero. He led both of the matches he lost when he was pinned.
Junior Connor Breed was 1-2 in the 215-pound weight class. His lone win was a 5-3 decision over BGAH's Caleb Larsen.
Freshman Gabriel Benjamin was 1-2 in the 157-pound bracket. His lone win was a wild 20-13 decision over Vestal's Connor Brubaker in the opening round of the consolation bracket.
Junior Jak Smith was 1-2 in the 285-pound weight class. His lone win was a 21-second fall over Marathon's Carson Fix in the opening round of the consolation bracket.
Senior Kaden Jameson was 1-2 in the 150-pound bracket, with his lone win a third-period pin of Cobleskill-Richmondville's Collin McCormack in the first round of the consolation bracket.
Freshman Andrew Kinnetz was 0-2 in the 126-pound weight class, while junior Korbin Brenza was 0-2 in the 165-pound bracket.
SVEC opens the 2025-26 dual season Wednesday at Lansing.
