H.S. GIRLS BASKETBALL: McEVOY KEYS BIG SECOND HALF; OWEGO TOPS TIOGA, 49-21, IN OPENING ROUND OF SIBLEY TOURNAMENT (2025-12-04)

OWEGO — Jenna McEvoy keyed a third-quarter blitz that blew open a close game as Owego pulled away for a 49-21 win over Tioga in the opening round of the Charlie Sibley Memorial Girls Basketball Tournament here Thursday night.

Lydiah Decker and Kaylah Nelson each knocked down 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Tigers to a 9-5 lead after the first eight minutes, but the rest of the game was all River Hawks.

Marielle Searles canned a 3-pointer and scored five points in the second quarter, and Katelyn Dodge added a 3-pointer to fuel a 10-3 run that put Owego ahead 15-13 at the halftime break.

Eva Crawford scored eight points in the third quarter, and McEvoy added six points, including a 3-pointer,  to power an 18-4 blitz that extended the River Hawk advantage to 33-16 heading into the final eight minutes.

McEvoy drained a pair of 3-pointers and pumped in 12 points in the fourth quarter as Owego sealed the win with a 16-5 run.

McEvoy led Owego with 24 points, three rebounds, and four steals, while Searles had 10 points, eight boards, and one blocked shot, and Crawford added eight points, six assists, four rebounds,a dn two blocked shots.

Keely Wicklund chipped in with four points, four rebounds, four steals, and one blocked shot in the win, while Jana Nikulich grabbed six rebounds, and Dodge recorded three steals.

Decker led Tioga with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Nelson added six points, and Payton Black chipped in with five points.

Tioga will square off with Candor Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game.
