Tioga County Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — The 2025-26 winter season tips off in earnest this week with bowling and wrestling matches, and basketball games on the schedule.
There are 19 events on this week's docket, including six on Saturday and five on Thursday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (1)
• The Newark Valley bowling teams are in action at Thomas A. Edison.
TUESDAY (3)
• The Candor boys open the 2025-26 basketball season at home against Lansing.
• Newark Valley opens the boys basketball season at home against Greene.
• The Candor bowling teams open the season on the road at Lansing.
WEDNESDAY (2)
• SVEC opens the wrestling season at Thomas A. Edison.
• Newark Valley opens the wrestling season at Moravia.
THURSDAY (5)
• Candor takes on Moravia, and Owego hosts Tioga in the opening round of the Sibley Girls Basketball Tournament.
• Newark Valley opens the season Thursday against Vestal at the Oneonta Tournament, which concludes Saturday.
• S-VE opens the girls basketball season at home against Lansing.
• Newark Valley hosts O-M on the lanes at Cardinal Lanes.
FRIDAY (2)
• Candor squares off with Newark Valley in the opening game of the Sibley Boys Basketball Tournament.
• SVEC is in action at Day 1 of the Clyde Cole Wrestling Invite at Oxford H.S.
SATURDAY (6)
• Newark Valley hosts the Larry Goodrich Wrestling Invitational, which will include Owego.
• SVEC is in action at Day 1 of the Clyde Cole Wrestling Invite at Oxford H.S.
• SVEC is in action at the Bea Stephens Girls Wrestling Scramble at Horseheads.
• The Sibley Boys and Girls basketball tournaments conclude at Owego High School.
