COLLEGE WRESTLING: NEWARK VALLEY GRAD MIDDENDORF PLACES SECOND AT N.Y. COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2025-11-30)

SYRACUSE — Newark Valley grad Trevor Middendorf, a freshman on the SUNY Brockport wrestling team, finished second in the 125-pound bracket at the New York State Collegiate Championships here at Onondaga Community College.

Middendorf won his first four matches before dropping a 5-3 decision to Niagara County's Jaron Barrientos in the finals. Middendorf scored a takedown with 6 seconds remaining in the bout to get on the board.

Middendorf scored seven takedowns, including two in each of the first period to build a 12-4 lead, and three more in the third period, for a 21-6 technical fall in 6:40 over Cortland's Noah Burke.

In the round-of-16, Middendorf recorded a pair of takedowns, adding two near-fall points on the second one to build an 8-1 before finishing off a fall of Oneonta State's Alex Isopa in 2:12.

In the quarterfinals, Middendorf continued his dominance with a 21-5 technical fall of Onondaga Community College's Matt Dougherty in 3:57.

Middendorf scored four first-period takedowns to build a 12-3 lead, then hit for three more in 57 seconds in the second period.

In the semifinals, Middendorf fought off his back midway through the first period to pull out a 13-12 win over Oswego State's Juan Roque.

Down 7-0 midway through the first, Middendorf scored an escape to close the gap to 7-1. He scored a takedown midway through the second period, and trailed 8-4 heading into the final two minutes.

In the third period, Middendorf gave up an escape, then hit on the three takedowns, including the go-ahead score with 33 seconds remaining to pull out the win.

Brockport finished third in the team standings.

Middendorf is now 11-4 on the season with seven technical falls and one fall.

Brockport returns to action Dec. 13 in a tri-match against Lycoming College and Oswego State in Oswego.
