WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY GRAD GARDNER RECORDS BACK-TO-BACK DOUBLE-DOUBLES AT PUERTO RICO CLASSICO (2025-11-30)

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Newark Valley grad Cha Gardner, a sophomore, recorded back-to-back double-doubles to help Stephen F. Austin to a second-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classico this weekend.

On Thursday, Gardner scored 14 points and hauled down a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with two blocked shots in a 67-61 win over Hampton in the semifinals. Gardner knocked down 7 of 9 shots from the field, and pulled down five offensive rebounds.

On Saturday, Gardner, who made 5 of 10 shots from the field, scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 68-60 loss to Longwood in the Classico title game. She also had two assists, two steals, and one blocked season.

On the season, Gardner has started in all seven of the Ladyjacks game, averaging 25.4 minutes per game. She averages 9.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1 steal per game, and is shooting 61.7 percent (29 of 47) from the field.

SFA, now 5-2, returns home Saturday to host Texas State.
