MAXWELL LEADS CANDOR; BEACH PACES S-VE

CHENANGO FORKS, N.Y. — Senior Marcos Escalante and sophomore Leland Houston posted top-20 finishes to lead Newark Valley to a fourth-place finish here Thursday afternoon at the Section IV, Class D Cross-Country Championships.
Escalante finished 13th in a time of 19:10.3 on the 5K course at the Chenango Valley State Park, while Houston was 17th in a time of 19:20.7.
Junior Camden King (29:07.7) and 8th-grader Sheldon Houston (20:13.0) finished 28th and 29th, respectively, for the Cardinals, and sophomore Shyly Payne was 36th in 20:35.4.
Senior Hunter Tyrell finished 61st in a time of 22:30.2, while sophomore Reese Illsley was 63rd in 22:33.7, sophomore Rex Chapman was 77th in 23:26.7, and junior Andrew Lelik was 81st in 23:36.0.
Delhi-South Kortright won the team title with 58 placement points, while Southern Cayuga was second with 64 points, Groton was third with 98, and Newark Valley tallied 108 points.
MAXWELL LEADS CANDOR IN CLASS D RACE
Senior Gage Maxwell finished 32nd in a time of 20:29.5 to lead the Coyotes at the Class D Championships, and freshman Declan Shaw was 57th in 21:55.9.
BEACH PACE S-VE AT CLASS D MEET
Senior Kenric Beach finished 69th in a time of 22:48.2 to lead S-VE at the Class D Championships, while 8th-grader Tristan Jennings was 74th in 23:08.5, and sophomore Landon Alice was 83rd in 23:38.4.
Sophomore Anthony Wintermute (23:52.5) and 8th-grader Caleb Paucke (23:56.0) finished 89th and 90th, respectively, while sophomore Kaiden Shock was 97th in 25:01.8, and junior William Horyczun was 100th in 25:30.4.
