SECTION IV GIRLS SWIMMING: MURPHY PACES OWEGO'S EFFORTS AT CLASS B PRELIMS (24 PHOTOS) (2025-11-06)

ENDWELL — Junior Ava Murphy had a first- and a second-place finish to pace Owego's efforts here Wednesday at the Section IV, Class B girls swimming preliminaries.

The top 16 finishers in each individual event, as well as the top eight relays in each of the three relays advance to Saturday's Class B championships. The River Hawks will advance all three relays, as well as eight swimmers in 13 entries in the eight individual events.

Murphy posted the fastest time to earn the top seed Saturday in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in with a time of 1:01.86, while junior Cecilia Clair was 10th in 1:18.52, and senior Sydney Shoen was 12th in 1:37.31.

Murphy finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:06.15.

The foursome of freshman Reese Hunt, and juniors Riley Masterson, Liz Williams and Cecilia Clair teamed to place fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:14.63

Murphy teamed with Clair, sophomore Sawyer Pratt, and freshman Maliah McMillen to place fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:52.27.

Masterson, Williams, Hunt and junior Hailey Stevens teamed to finish seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:43.47.

McMillen finished ninth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 8.3 seconds, and Clair was 13th in 29.69 seconds.

Hunt finished 10th in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:57.69, while Pratt was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:02.63, and Stevens was 15th in 1:08.28.

Pratt finished 12th in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:14.39, and Williams was 14th in 1:18.02.

Masterson finished 12th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:43.62, and Hunt was 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:27.4.

The Class B Championships begin at 2 p.m Saturday at Maine-Endwell High School.
