OWEGO — Owego held its own for more than 42 minutes before bowing to Seton Catholic, 4-0, in STAC boys soccer action here Tuesday.
The River Hawks turned away the Saints until there was 37:16 remaining in the second half and Gregario Morales found himself wide open for a pass less than five yards away from the Owego goal.
That ignited an 8-minute scoring onslaught as Seton was able to score three more times from within 10 yards. The goals came at 35:47, 31:24 and 29:04.
The Saints came into the game with a 7-2-2 record in the Central Division and were hoping to gain ground on front-running Chenango Forks, which started the day at 7-2-1. The Blue Devils beat Waverly, 4-0, to clinch the division.
Owego hosts Windsor next Tuesday.
