IAC GIRLS SOCCER: TIOGA RALLIES IN SECOND HALF TO TOP SVEC, 4-2 (15 PHOTOS) (2025-10-06)

Tioga County Sports Report
CANDOR — SVEC scored early in the second half to take the lead, but Tioga finished the game with three unanswered goals for a 4-2 win here Monday afternoon in IAC girls soccer at Candor High School.

"It was a super-disappointing game today," said SVEC coach Michael Leljedal. "It felt like one of those games that nothing went our way. From having multiple shots hit the post, to a fluke goal being let in.

"The girls fought hard and for it to not go our way in a really important game is disappointing," added Leljedal. "Taking no credit away from Tioga, they finished their chances and we didn’t."

SVEC falls to 4-10 on the season, and is looking to add another game — needing to win both to qualify for the Section IV playoffs.

"Sectionals is still within reach," said Leljedal. "We have to find a 16th game against a Class B team and win Wednesday.

"Hopefully, we can find a game and give the girls one last chance for the postseason," he added. "Their hard work deserves it and a really frustrating year that is not reflective of the quality of team we are."

Sophomore Allie Lyon, off a feed from 8th-grader Melanie Stevens, gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead about seven minutes into the game.

Natalie Kemp, off a feed from freshman Grace Howey, scored with 8:20 left in the first half to tie the game at 1-1, which is where it stood at the halftime intermission.

Junior Meradyth Stouffer scored nearly 10 minutes into the second half to give SVEC a 2-1 lead.

SVEC maintained the one-goal lead for nearly eight minutes until Howey, off an assist from Izzy Carter, scored to tie the game at 2-2.

About four minutes later, Serenity Relyea, off a feed from Kemp, gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead with 19:54 remaining in the contest.

Tioga added an insurance goal with 3:14 left in the game on a goal by Sophia Haney, off a corner kick from Howey.

SVEC had a 13-9 advantage in shots-on-goal, and an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Alaina Yeirer recorded five saves in net for the Eagles.

SVEC hosts Union Springs Wednesday at Candor High School.
