ELMIRA — Sophomore Ayla Young logged Owego's only first-place finish and punched her ticket to States, and junior Ava Murphy had a pair of top-three finishes here Saturday at the Elmira Swimming & Diving Invitational.

Waverly amassed 234 points to win the team title, while runner-up Horseheads tallied 197.5 points, third-place Maine-Endwell had 189, and fourth-place Corning had 157. Owego finished 11th with 51 points.

Young won the 1-meter diving competition with an 11-dive score of 548.5, which tops the state standard.

Murphy placed second in the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1:02.93, while 

Murphy finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:08.0, and junior Riley Masterson was 16th in 2:27.06.

Freshman Maliah McMillen finished 16th in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:14.88, and sophomore Sawyer Pratt was 18th in 1:15.40.

Pratt was also 18th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:05.18.

Freshman Reese Hunt was 20th in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:30.15.

Owego returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Waverly.
