Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Chenango Valley scored with seven minutes remaining to pull out a 2-1 win over Owego here Wednesday night in STAC girls soccer action.
CV took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game on a header off a corner kick to the far post.
While CV controlled the action for the first 30 minutes of the contest, the River Hawks started to seize control for the final 10 minutes.
The second half was continued to play in Owego's favor with Ashlyn Dalton scoring shortly after the intermission, beating the CV keeper in a 1-v-1.
"I felt like we controlled the majority of the second half and we wanted it, but couldn't finish our opportunities," said Simpson.
The Warriors scored the game-winner on a deflection off a free kick to make it 2-1.
CV had a 13-5 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Kendra Tursman had 11 saves in net for the River Hawks.
MONDAY
Chenango Forks 4, Owego 2
Chenango Forks took a quick 2-0 lead, and held off Owego on its way to a 4-2 win.
It was a tough first loss, we didn't play our best soccer in the first half," said Simpson.
Trailing 2-0, Ashlyn Dalton scored "a beautiful goal) on a free kick to close the gap to 2-1, which is where it stood at the half.
"We battled back in the second half, and played great for the first 25 minutes," said Simpson.
Forks upped its lead to 3-1, but Dalton again put Owego on the board to trim the deficit to 3-2.
"We had chances, but couldn't find the back of the net after that," said Simpson.
"We play both of these teams again and CV is also Class A, so we may even see them in sectionals," added Simpson.
Owego, now 2-1, returns to action Friday night at Waverly.
