POPLAR RIDGE, N.Y. — Eighth-grader Hadley Merrill and senior Brook Illsley led the Newark Valley girls to a second-place finish in a five-team IAC cross country meet here Tuesday afternoon, while sophomore Leland Houston led the Cardinal boys to a third-place finish.
GIRLS
Lansing 35, Newark Valley 42, Southern Cayuga 60, Marathon 95, Moravia INC
Merrill led Newark Valley with a third-place finish in a time of 17:54.3, and Illsley was fourth in 18:09.4.
Senior Olivia Vaughn finished 10th in a time 20:08.5, while senior Emily LaPorte (20:28.2), junior Abigail Escalante (20:39.7), and sophomore Elle Webb (20:50.2) were 12th through 14th, respectively, and sophomore Leah Lansing was 16th in 20:58.3.
Junior Malerie Gregow finished 19th in 21:15.5, while 8th-grader Nora McCann was 21st in 21:23.1, senior Savannah Beebe was 24th in 22:23.6, sophomore Peyton Rhodes was 29th in 22:53, sophomore Charlotte Vaughn was 32nd in 23:52.7, and sophomore Kaitlyn Bohne was 34th in 24:09.3.
BOYS
Southern Cayuga 32, Lansing 40, Newark Valley 57, Moravia 116, Marathon INC
Houston paced the Cardinals with a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 15:04.6, and junior Camden King was seventh in 16:17.9.
Senior Marcos Escalante finished 13th for NV in a time of 16:49.1, while sophomore Rhylee Payne was 18th in 17:28.4, and 8th-grader Sheldon Houston was 24th in 17:42.8.
Senior Hunter Tyrell (10:15.1), sophomore Reese Illsley (19:33.2) and junior Andrew Lelik (19:40.5) finished 36th through 38th, respectively, and sophomore Rex Chapman was 41st in 21:24.2.
JUNIOR HIGH
Boys
Jacob Elliott paced NV with a third-place finish in a time of 9:45.5, and James Phillips was fourth in 10:43.4.
Gavin Gilmartin (12:33.5), Charles Gregow (12:41.2), Liam Colgan (13:04.7), Logan Stoeckel (13:24.1), Waylon Jones (15:55.2), and Dylan Jerome (19:29.0) placed sixth through 11th, respectively, for the Cardinals.
Girls
Rebecca Kelsey finished fifth for NV in a time of 19:24.8.
