CANDOR — After 80-plus minutes of scoreless soccer, Kyle Jantz drove a PK into the back of the net to lift SVEC to a hard-fought, 1-0, win over Watkins Glen here Monday afternoon in IAC South Large School Division boys soccer action.
"The boys played great tonight," said SVEC coach Jason Banks. "We knew Watkins was going to be tough with a roster full of upperclassman.
"This win was a team performance and some of our younger players like Wyatt Anderson and Ryan Ackerly had a great match," he noted.
"In addition, two of our veterans — Sirron Irrvin in goal and Kyle Jantz — showed true grit on the field," added Banks.
SVEC had an 11-8 edge in shots-on-goal, and both teams had three corner kicks.
Sirron Irvin had five saves in net for the Eagles.
SVEC, now 3-0, hosts Edison Wednesday and travels to Notre Dame Friday.
"It's a big week for us with three divisional games, so it was nice to start it with a win," said Banks.
