SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: OWEGO VS M-E GAME WILL HONOR FORMER PLAYER, COACH (2025-08-28)

Tioga County Sports Report
ENDWELL — Thursday evening’s field hockey game between Owego and Maine-Endwell will honor the memory of Briana Burghardt, a former athlete and coach with family ties to both schools’ programs.

Burghardt’s sister, Kylie Hrehor, coached field hockey at both Owego and M-E, and is currently officiating the sport. Her cousin, Ashlee Marsh, is the River Hawks’ head coach. Hrehor will be officiating the game.

Burghardt, who passed away in July, graduated from Whitney Point in 2000 and was a three-sport athlete. She was an all-state field hockey player, leading the Golden Eagles to their first state championship in 1999. She was also a Press & Sun Bulletin All-Metro basketball player and a Susquenango Association first-team softball player.

She also attended Houghton College where she competed in field hockey, and also did a stint as a head coach and assistant coach for the Highlanders. She moved on to coach modified field hockey, basketball and lacrosse at M-E.

Organizers are calling on current and former players from all levels, as well as parents, grandparents and fans of all ages, to attend the first and possibly annual Briana Burghardt Memorial Field Hockey Game.

A 50/50 drawing will be held with proceeds being donated to Burghardt’s 12-year-old daughter, Nylah.

The game begins at 7 p.m.
