Tioga County Sports ReportEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Owego coach Rusty Virkler was recognized as a Flag Football Coach of the Week Thursday night at the New York Giants’ preseason game against the New England Patriots.
Among those joining him was Union-Endicott coach Mikey Carr. The pair were among 12 coaches in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to be honored.
New York added flag football in 2022 and Virkler took the reins, leading them to a 45-6 record in four seasons. Owego won two Section IV championships, and was a NYSPHSAA Division II semifinalist in 2024 and Class C runner-up in 2025.
