IAC BOWLING: NV'S ALEX UMIKER ROLLS HIGH SERIES AT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2019-02-02)

WAVERLY - Alex Umiker rolled the high scratch series to lead the Newark Valley boys to third place overall at the IAC Bowling Championships Saturday at the Valley Bowling Center.

Umiker opened the tournament with a 248 and closed with a 227. In between, he posted a 198 and his three-game total was 673. His 248 ranked fourth-highest for the tournament, trailing only Union Springs / Port Byron's Mitchell Hamel (258), and the Watkins Glen duo of Wyatt Brower (257) and H Nathaniel Rose (249).

The Cardinals would put together a 2796 series, edging out Watkins Glen for the third spot by five pins. Tioga took the team title with the high series, 2901, while US / PB was second at 2810. Waverly was fifth in the 12-team competition with a 2786.

NV also rolled the third-highest game of the day with a 976. Tioga topped the list with a 1053 and the Glen was next in line with a 1023.

Kyle Pratt posted a 584 series with a high game of 224 and Sam Umiker registered a 583 series, his best game being a 210. Jason Brown shot a 211-545 and Lucas Frank added a 173-411.

For Candor, Garrett Lindhorst led the way with a 180-455. Ethan Howe contributed a 148-394 and Carson Howe had a 144-375. Storm Andrews and Devin Benesh each posted a 370 series. Andrews' high game was a 153, Benesh's a 143.

Th Indians were 10th in the team race with a high game of 768 and a 1964 series.

In the girls tournament, Candor placed sixth out of 10 full teams with a 2071 series. The Indians' high game of 722 was seventh.

May Marsh paced the team with a 177-491, Alexis Karabec rolled a 165-447 and Sarah Emond added a 159-416. Kaitlyn Johnston had a 133-362 and Olivia Bennett chipped in with a 125-355.

Newark Valley was seventh with a 2054 series and its high game of 774 was good for fourth.
