TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: OWEGO'S BRACE EARNS "BOYS NEWCOMER OF THE SPRING" (2025-06-28)

TIOGA COUNTY - Owego's Dylan Brace was a pivotal piece of the River Hawks' lineup this spring, taking over catching duties and providing a consistent bat offensively to earn Tioga County Sports Report "Boys Newcomer of the Spring."

As a catcher, Brace showcased top-notch blocking abilities, while providing an arm that many runners shied away from. 

At the plate, Brace hit .362 with 21 hits that included, six doubles, 22 RBI and 18 runs scored. Brace worked 15 walks for an on-base percentage of .536 to go with a slugging percentage of .466 for a 1.001 OPS.

Kellen Williamson, 8th-grader, SVEC:
Williamson hit .417 in 2025 with 20 hits, including four doubles, one triple, 18 RBI, and 13 runs scored. Williamson stole 11 bases and finished the season with a 1.050 OPS. Williamson also went 1-1 on the mound with 17 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched.

Ryker Chrysler, freshman, Owego:
This was Chrysler's first season running track, and the freshman contributed right out of the gate. Chrysler helped the River Hawks boys' team as one of their top runners in multiple events, including the 400-meter dash, 800m and 1600-meter run. Chrysler was the top finishing rookie at the STAC Championships in the 1600, clocking 4:58. Chrysler was also a member for the OFA 4x800-meter relay team that captured the Section IV Class B title.

Dominic Palmer, junior, Tioga:
Palmer spent the regular season running sprints, relays, and competing in the long jump and high jump, but when the postseason rolled around, he focused his attention on the pentathlon. In his first effort, Palmer won the event for Small School at the IAC Championships with 2,161 points. He followed that up with a second-place finish at the State Qualifier with a school-record 2,944 points, which easily topped the state standard of 2,901 points. Palmer finished 12th at the State meet with 2,521 points.

Wyatt Prentiss, freshman, Owego:
Prentiss earned a spot in a defensive starting role for Owego lacrosse this spring. In his first season on varsity, Prentiss helped lead the River Hawks' defensive unit, while racking up 61 ground balls, 65 caused turnovers and 54 successful clears. 

Josh Rought, freshman, Tioga: 
Rought hit .306 with 15 hits, including four doubles, 15 RBI, 17 runs scored, and four stolen bases. He walked nine times and was hit by pitches twice for a .433 on-base percentage. On the mound, Rought was 3-2 with a 4.44 ERA. He fanned 37 and walked 14, while allowing 22 hits in 23 2/3 innings.

Owen Jerabek, sophomore, Newark Valley
Jerabek was a standout on the tennis court in 2025 for the Cardinals. At one point in the season, Jerabek won all three of his matchups in a week without dropping a set, including two contests that helped earn the Cardinals a pair of much needed wins for their season. Jerabek went on to place fourth at the IAC Championships in his first season, while also representing Newark Valley at Sectionals in singles play.
