NEW YORK GIRLS' LACROSSE: OFA HEADING TO STATE FINAL FOUR AFTER HIGH SCORING VICTORY OVER NEW PALTZ (2025-06-07)

Tioga County Sports Report
BINGHAMTON - Owego girls' lacrosse continues their historic run, lighting up the scoreboard in the Class C Regional Final, defeating New Paltz, 15-8 and securing a trip to the NYSPHSAA State
Semifinals.

OFA came out with high energy and intensity, jumping all over New Paltz in the first quarter. Madison McEvoy went back-to-back with two goals less than four minutes into the game.

Keira Henry and Lexi Herceg combined for a pair of goals, while Jenna McEvoy notched two scores of her own for the River Hawks. Owego goalie, Shannon Maslin was fantastic in net, making multiple saves and shutting New Paltz out to end the first quarter with OFA on top, 6-0.

The Huguenots showed some fight to start the second stanza, scoring a quick goal, but Owego responded with two straight from Herceg and Jenna McEvoy. After another score from New Paltz, Herceg and Madison McEvoy each found the back of the net to make things 10-2 in favor of the River Hawks.

New Paltz closed the gap a bit before the break, scoring twice in the final two minutes, bringing the score to 10-4 at the half.

The Huguenots would net their fifth goal to begin the third quarter, but that would be their only score of the stanza. Owego locked down defensively, with the combination of Izzy Herceg and Madison McEvoy pushing the OFA lead to 13-5.

New Paltz had their best stretch of the game in the final quarter, scoring three times, but Jenna McEvoy sealed the deal for OFA with two more goals to close things out.

Madison and Jenna McEvoy finished with five goals each. Lexi Herceg earned a hat trick, while Keira Henry and Izzy Herceg notched one goal a piece.

Mikayla Wilbur led the way in ground ball control, racking up four. Bella Silvestri and Gabriella Boehme both totaled three ground balls. Maslin finished with 10 saves in goal.

"This is incredible. As a freshman, getting to do this with my sister, and all the other seniors who have worked so hard, it's a great accomplishment and those seniors deserve this," said Jenna McEvoy.

"We continue to stay energized and keep putting in the effort. If you put the hard work in, the championships will come. Today we knew we had the athletes, so we wanted to run and we were able to do that," added Madison McEvoy.

"We came out very strong. The heat got to everyone at a certain point, but we were able to pick it back up and earn the win," said coach, Ashlee Marsh.

"We are all so excited. Some of these girls are putting in seven days a week. We have been doing optional stick related stuff and the girls are showing up, which shows how much they really want this."

"Heading into next week, we just need to keep focused on the basics. If we stick to our game, that can carry us to a state title," Marsh said.

Next up, OFA girls' lacrosse will play in the NYSPHSAA Class C State Semifinal, next Friday at SUNY Cortland against Queensbury out of Section II.
