NEWFIELD - Abby DeBolt recorded her 100th strikeout of the season Monday, helping lead the Cardinals to a dominant win on the road over Newfield, 20-3.
DeBolt went five innings in the circle for Newark Valley, striking out eight, exactly the number she needed to reach the milestone 100th for her season as only a sophomore.
"It's an incredible highlight for a great season," said coach Val Fischer.
"The 100th strikeout came on the last batter of the game. As a coach I am so proud of her because this was a goal she set very early in the year."
"I'm happy I could be apart of her accomplishment this season and I can't wait to see what she does in the future," added coach Fischer.
Newark Valley lit it up from the plate as well in their IAC matchup with Newfield.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead with eight runs in the first inning. Newark Valley would go on to score in every inning, including one run in the second, followed by a combined 11 total runs over the final three innings.
Lilly Cornell drove in four runs on the day. Maddy Noble and Laura Ludwig each had three RBIs, while Hattie Hines and Kaitlyn Keith knocked in two a piece.
Kayden Rockwell scored four runs against Newfield and Polly Hines reached home on three occasions.
Newark Valley softball is back in action tomorrow at Tioga.
