NEWARK VALLEY - Newfield jumped on the Cardinals early and never looked back, taking home the win, 11-1 in Monday's IAC baseball match-up.
Newfield plated two in the first inning and got three more runs in the top of the third.
In the home half of the third, Newark Valley put their only run of the game on the board. Austin Cottrill was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Brandon Eynon reached on a single and Joshua Karp worked a walk to load the bases.
Gabe Merrill came to the plate next and knocked a base-hit to score Cottrill.
Newfield went on to score two runs in the fifth and four more to put the game away in the seventh inning.
Eynon and Merrill had the Cardinals only two hits for the game, with Merrill earning an RBI as well.
Karp went 4.2 innings on the mound, giving up five earned runs, while striking out seven.
Newark Valley honored five seniors on Monday, including Gabe Merrill, Scott Wager, Josh Karp, Austin Cottrill, and Brandon Eynon.
Newark Valley travels for their next game, facing Tioga on May 9th.
