Tioga County Sports Report
MORAVIA - There were plenty of runs scored by both sides in Monday's IAC softball contest, but ultimately Newark Valley went down, falling to Moravia, 18-11.

Newark Valley scored in each of the first four innings.

The Cardinals put six across in the first two innings, but surrendered six in the home part of the second. Kaitlyn Keith drove in a run, while Haven Aylesworth doubled to bring in a run, before scoring herself in the first. The Cardinals managed another two runs off an error in the inning.

In the top of the second, Abby DeBolt singled on a hard-hit ground ball that scored Rebecca Thompson.

In the third inning, Aylesworth was hit by a pitch. She then stole second and third, before being driven in by Anaya Aylesworth. Moravia got two more home in the home half of the inning.

In the top part of the fourth, the Cardinals scored four more runs, but again surrendered another six in the bottom half.

Moravia would go on to score four more runs over the course of the next two innings to hold off Newark Valley and take the win.

Keith had four RBIs for the game to go with two runs scored. Laura Ludwig and Haven Aylesworth each scored twice, while Hattie Hines and Abby DeBolt both tallied an RBI. Kayden Rockwell, Lilly Cornell and Thompson all scored runs during the afternoon as well.

"We are still trying to clean things up in the field. We seem to always have one rough inning with errors, which hurts us," said coach Val Fischer.

"At this point in the season we are still in the run for a sectional spot. All we need to do is win the games I know we can and we will be good."

Newark Valley next faces Union Springs at home on April, 30.
