AURORA - It was a tough road trip for Cardinals' softball on Wednesday, as Newark Valley dropped both games of their double header with Southern Cayuga, 10-0 and 18-0.
In game one, the Chiefs set the tone early with two runs in the first inning. Southern Cayuga put one on the scoreboard in the second as well, and followed that up with seven more runs over the next two innings.
Newark Valley totaled three hits during game one, coming from Lilly Cornell, Kaitlyn Keith and Haven Ayelsworth.
In the second game of the double header, the Chiefs continued to pour it on. Southern Cayuga plated four runs in the first and a combined 14 runs in the second and third innings. Newark Valley held the Chiefs scoreless in the final two innings, but were unable to generate any offense of their own.
In game two, Hattie Hines had a pair of hits, while Laura Ludwig and Cecelia Whitney each had a hit as well. Keith pitched two solid innings of relief, allowing one hit over two innings of work.
Cardinals' softball will see action again on April 28th at Moravia.
