ELMIRA HEIGHTS - The Cardinals' tennis team dropped a very competitive match, 4-1 to the Spartans on a cold afternoon on the hard courts.

In first singles, Newark Valley's Michael Wandell beat Mackenzie King in an intense three-set match, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

Garret Davis defeated the Cardinals' Owen Jerabek, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a closely contested second singles matchup.

The Spartans' won in third singles. Lillian Coulrich topped Vincent Finta, 7-6( 7-5), 6-2.

In first doubles competition, Tyler Clarx and Blake Boehart defeated Newark Valley's Nathan Engbith and Andrew Lelik in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

The Spartans' Kaitlyn King and Joe Paul also won in straight sets for second doubles, beating the Cardinals' Brianna Noble and Gabrielle James 7-5, 6-3.

Newark Valley will get back to the courts on April 21st when they host Lansing.
