OWEGO - Solid pitching mixed with a big fourth inning at the plate, propelled OFA softball to their seventh victory on Wednesday, downing Chenango Forks, 11-1.
Carsten Crawford and Joslyn Space have become quite the formidable pitching duo this season. The two combined to throw a one-hitter during Wednesday's STAC matchup with Forks.
Space got the start and went four innings, allowing one hit and striking out five. Crawford came in relief and finished the final three innings, striking out six. Forks' only run was scored off an error in the fourth inning.
The game was a stalemate for the first three innings. Chenango Forks plated a run in the top part of the fourth, but OFA responded with six runs in the home half of the inning.
Geneva Crawford lead off the fourth with a double to center field. Carsten Crawford followed up with a double of her own to drive in the first Owego run. Next up was Miley Laubach. The OFA catcher lifted one to center and hustled for an inside the park home run to put two more on the board for the River Hawks.
Maia Smith singled next on a hard hit ground ball. Izzy Coveney then reached base on an error. After Bella Beams drew a walk, the bases were loaded.
Forks would get the next two batters out, but Space stepped in the box and knocked a base hit, scoring Smith and Coveney. Geneva Crawford came to the plate for the second time in the inning and grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Beams to score and putting Owego up 6-1 after four innings of play.
The River Hawks plated two in the fifth and three more runs in the sixth inning to finish Chenango Forks off and earn their seventh win of 2025.
Carsten Crawford, Laubach and Smith all went 3-for-4. Laubach drove in three runs for the day, while Crawford and Smith each scored twice.
Space recorded two RBIs in the contest and Beams brought home a run as well. Geneva Crawford also knocked in a run to go with a hit and two runs scored.
OFA softball will have a break until they play Forks again on April 29th.
