TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: WAVERLY'S JOHNSON NAMED 'BOWLER OF YEAR;' WAVERLY SANTALUCIA, BOWMAN ALSO EARN TOP HONORS ON ALL-TIOGA COUNTY TEAM (2025-03-25)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Junior Derek Johnson bowled a pair of perfect games, and led Waverly back to the New York State Championships for the third year in a row. He is the Tioga County Sports Report "Bowler of the Year."

Waverly 8th-grader Colten Santalucia is the "Newcomer of the Year," with the highest possible honorable mention going to Waverly freshman Griffin Walter. Waverly's Derek Bowman is the "Coach of the Year."

Johnson had the second-highest average in the STAC with a 228, and the fifth-highest series with a 751, to go along with the two 300 games.

Johnson rolled a 652 to help Waverly to its first STAC Championships, and a 613 as the Wolverines won the Class C title.

At the State Qualifier, Johnson rolled series 728 and 670 to help Waverly to its third state berth in a row.

At States, Johnson rolled a 723 in the morning, and a 580 in the afternoon session. He was ninth in the overall standings.

Santalucia stormed on to the scene this season, with a 208 average, which was 16th in the STAC. He had the third-highest series in the league with a 762. His high game was a 278.

Santalucia rolled series of 662 and 619 at the State Qualifier, after rolling a 619 at the Class C Championships. At States, he rolled series of 655 and 495.

Walter, who spent the majority of the season on the JV team, bowled six games on varsity at the end of the season with a 213 average.

Walter rolled five games at the State Qualifier with a 665 series in the morning, including a high game of 245. He rolled five games at States, with a 633 series, including a 226 high game, in the morning sessions.

Bowman led Waverly to its first STAC Championship, another Section IV, Class C Championship, and its third consecutive trip to the New York State Championships, by virtue of winning its third straight Section IV State Qualifier.

Evan O'Hara, Owego: O'Hara posted a 228 average on the season, which was third in the STAC. He had a high series of 729, which was good for 15th in the league.

O'Hara shot series of 589 and 637 at the State Qualifier, and a 668 at the Class B Championships. He shot a 628 series at the STAC Championships.

Connor Kotski, Owego: Kotski had a 216 average this season, which was sixth in the STAC. He had a high series of 736, which was 12th-best in the league.

Kotski rolled series of 608 and 677 at the State Qualier, and a 648 at the Class B Championships. His nine-game set of 1,933 missed qualifying for States by one spot. He rolled a 573 at the STAC Championships.

Kody Floyd, Candor:
Floyd led the IAC with a 206 average. He had a high series of 707, which was good for third in the league. He had a high game of 299, which was second in the IAC this season.

Floyd rolled a 612 and 673 at the State Qualifier, after rolling a 665 at the Class D Championships. His nine-game set of 1,950 was good enough to secure an alternate spot on the Section IV team at States.

Maison Apgar, Waverly:
Apgar posted a 206 average, which was good for 18th in the STAC. He had a high series of 725, which ranked 18th, and a high game of 289, which was ninth on the season.

Apgar rolled series of 702 and 634 at the State Qualifier, and a 630 at the Class C Championships. At States, he rolled series of 553 and 595.

SECOND TEAM
Nick Slater, Tioga:
Slater posted a 199 average on the season, which was fourth in IAC. He had a 677 series, which was seventh in the league, and had a 257 high game.

Slater rolled series of 643 and 569 at the State Qualifier, and a 650 at the Class C Championships.

Tristan Campbell, Waverly:
Campbell had a 199 average this season, which was good for 24th in the STAC. He had a 732 high series, which was 13th in the STAC. He had a high game of 276.

Campbell rolled games of 220 and 221 at the State Qualifier, after rolling a 561 at the Class C Championships. At States, he rolled series of 598 and 562.

Dom Wood, Waverly:
Wood had a 198 average, which was 26th in the STAC this season. He had a high series of 739, which was 11th-best in the league this season. He had a high game of 279.

Wood rolled a 644 at the State Qualifier, after rolling a 600 at the Class C Championships. At States, he rolled series of 579 and 564.

Tyler Dunham, Candor: Dunham posted a 196 average on the season, which was good for fourth in the IAC. He had a high series of 687, which was good for sixth in the league this season. His high game of 268 was fifth in the IAC.

Devan Card, Owego: Card posted a 189 average, and had a high series of 674. His high game was 278.

Card rolled series of 632 and 628 at the State Qualifier, and a 539 at the Class B Championships. He shot a 604 series at the STAC Championships.

Grayson Quick, Owego:
Clark had a 187 average,  and had a high series of 673. His high game was 257.

Quick rolled series of 618 and 529 at the State Qualifier, and a 572 at the Class B Championships. He rolled a 529 at the STAC Championships.
