CANDOR - The Coyotes are coming down the home stretch towards the start of the regular outdoor track and field season, and were continuing to get dialed in on Monday afternoon.
Candor spent the afternoon rotating between the weight room and the track. Co-coaches Bree Zogaria and Kimberly White looked on with anticipation for the start of the 2025 outdoor calendar, as their athletes began the second week of spring practice.
This season the Coyotes expect to be strong in multiple facets thanks to a strong turnout at all levels.
"The numbers are trending in a positive direction. We have a lot of new faces and more athletes this season than last," said Zogaria. "Our modified program even had the most numbers we have had in 10 years I think. So the program is shaping up to have a bright future."
Some key returners for Candor will be Emma Haynes in both the 400 and 800 meters. Ayasha Schweiger will be back to run the 400m hurdles on the girls' team. On the boys side, look for senior, James Kane in the mid distance, running the 400 and 800 meters, as well as Jakobe Foster in the sprints, 400 meters and high jump.
"I think we will have a diverse field of strengths this season," co-coach Kimberly White said. "We will have key sprinters and distance runners, but also key people in the field as well."
Coach Zogaria is looking forward to seeing this team's positivity carry them through this track and field season.
"So far it's been the most positive start to a season that I can remember," said Zogaria. "These kids pick each other up, they're focused on their workouts and just so happy to be here every day. I think that will trickle through in their performances as we go along."
Candor outdoor track & field starts the 2025 season on March 31st at Spencer-Van Etten. The meet will include the Coyotes, SVE, Moravia, Marathon, and Odessa-Montour.
